The ELx405™ is a fast and versatile automated microplate washer.

In many Microplate applications, the wash process must be strictly controlled to remove unwanted reagents, whilst leaving fragile cell layers or loosely bound ligands in the plate.

The ELx405 washer solves these problems with variable flow rates and its patented Dual-Action™ manifold, which allows independent control of dispense and aspirate manifolds for overfill washing in both 96- and 384-well formats.

The latest in a long line of innovations seen on the ELx405 is the Ultrasonic Advantage™ system to offer effortless, built-in, ultrasonic manifold maintenance; especially important in automated and unattended systems.  

The range of ELx405 microplate washers extends to four main models, each with their own specific variants.

The standard ELx405 microplate washer is the most precise and reliable 96-well only washer on the market today.

The ELx405 Select microplate washer uses a unique Dual-Action manifold to provide independent control of both dispense and aspirate manifolds for precise washing in both 96- and 384-well plates with no hardware changes necessary. There is full control of x, y and z positioning of both aspirate and dispense tubes, as well as dispense and aspiration rates. The ELX405 Select CW washer has all of the capabilities of the standard ELx405 Select and in addition has been optimised for washing even the most non-adherent cell layers.

The ELx405 Magna is capable of washing 96-well plates in the same way as the standard ELx405, and has been developed for applications involving magnetic bead technology. To secure the beads during wash cycles, a magnetic plate is positioned close to the bottom of the assay microplate.

The ELx405 HT has been designed to rapidly wash 384-well plates using a 192-channel Dual-Action manifold to give the best results combined with the shortest wash cycle times of any microplate washer available.

All ELx405 series washers can store up to 75 programs on board and have a range of prime and maintenance programs, as well a robotic microplate carrier as standard. Interfacing into robotic systems is straightforward with an easy to use ActiveX™ component.

And for added convenience, Liquid Handling Control™ Software optionally provides full PC control of the ELx405 in a familiar Microsoft Windows® environment, while its intuitive StepWise™ protocol creation makes LHC Software easy to use even for novice users.
